You’re Going To See Improvements This Year — And There Are More To Come

While we’ve already told you about the big parking improvements this year, that’s just part of the effort we’ve put in this year toward improving everyone’s experience at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair.

The wing seating at the grandstands got upgrades and expansions this year on both ends.

We’ve also expanded and upgraded grandstand seating, adding another 1,000 seats — seats that are FREE on a first-come, first-served basis for all concerts — to help more guests enjoy the variety of spectacles we put on for the nine-day fair, which starts Friday.

We’ve also added two new restrooms in strategic areas. The first is north of the grandstands, a little way inside the main entrance, Gate G, close to the information gazebo and the Winner’s Circle. The second one is on the west side of the fairgrounds, near the stage in Heritage Park, the Farmstead and Young McDonald’s Farm.

The new warning siren sits along Food Row and next to the Midway.

And we’re always looking to enhance safety for everyone at the fair, so this year we added a new emergency siren and public-address system — just in case.

To do all of that, plus other minor improvements across the ground, we invested $1.2 million in upgrades over the last year. While the nonprofit fair organization borrowed some of the money to make these improvements, we think you’ll like them — and what we have planned down the road.

Aerial 2014

Here’s the new parking access from C.R. 34 as of 2014, and the next major phase will extend it to the south and connect with C.R. 36/College Avenue, which runs across the top of this photo.

Actually, the biggest plan IS a road. Once we’ve paid off the debt for the latest phase of building projects, we’re going to focus on an even bigger fix for the traffic difficulties we all face getting to and from the fairgrounds.

We want to expand the new traffic way on the east side of the new parking area to the south, across some of the additional land we acquired in 2011 (and paid off in 2012 with the generous support of our community), and connect with C.R. 36/College Avenue.

That will make it MUCH easier for all of us to leave the grounds when the biggest events — concerts, the rodeo, the tractor pull or the demolition derby — finish up.

To make that a reality, we’re asking our community once again for your generous help. We’d love to have donations of ANY size, and you can donate online or give us a call to donate by phone (or chat with us about making a donation in person).

We have a special page set up at 4hfair.org/fi/fundraising to give details and to make it easy to jump in and help us make your fair experience better.

Please check it out and consider patterning with us in the future of The Fun Fair!
