Even though days with a high heat index have kept some people from coming out for the early days of the fair, we’ve already seen an estimated 100,000 guests at the 2015 Elkhart County 4-H Fair — and we’re only halfway through the nine-day event.
And the good news is the heat should break and bring us an excellent finish to this year’s fair, with today forecast as the last hot, humid day for the fair (and of course, we have plenty of options to cool off).
The first day we saw more than 24,000 people, and on Saturday more than 20,600 people came through the gates.
We don’t yet have an estimate of attendance for Sunday, Free Family Fun Day, though best guess at this point puts attendance above 30,000, and Monday saw nearly 21,200 people. With people already coming through today, we’ve had good crowds already.
While the pace is slightly below the last couple of mega years, we attribute that to weather. When you look back over the last five years, we’re on pace, according to Mary Nisley, the fair board member in charge of gate ticket takers.
