With the opening of the new road on the southeast side of the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds, there will be even more options for smart travelers to avoid traffic hang-ups and take the quick, out-of-the-way route to the fairgrounds.
With this year’s opening of the Elkhart County 4-H Fair’s C.R. 36 South Gate — the official opening will happen at 7 a.m. Friday, July 22, 90 minutes before the official opening of the 2016 Elkhart County 4-H Fair — motorists will have better options than ever to avoid those backups which are common during the late afternoons and early evenings during the fair. And, of course, traffic will get out of the fairgrounds much faster at the end of the night.
The gate itself is just east of the Norfolk-Southern railroad tracks on C.R. 36/College Ave., just outside Goshen’s city limits. Its address is 16715 C.R. 36, Goshen, IN 46528 and GPS coordinates are 41.566377, -85.785500.
The C.R. 36 South Gate and the roadway in to the fair parking area will be manned with parking staff members and law-enforcement officers throughout the fair.
After 9 p.m. each evening of the fair, the road will become “exit only,” in order to provide much-needed relief for traffic exiting the grounds each night.
There are no motorcycles or trailers allowed on the new road, so riders and people with trailers (as well as folks with parking passes) will need to use C.R. 34/Monroe Street to reach the fairgrounds, The best options for handicapped parking are also along C.R. 34.
