One of our special features at the 2015 Elkhart County 4-H Fair is the 9/11 Never Forget Exhibit.
The Siller family started the Stephan Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York firefighter who lost his life Sept. 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center.
The foundation’s mobile exhibit is a tribute to all whose lives were sacrificed that day, educating America’s youth about the events of that day. It includes steel beams, documentary videos, recordings of radio transmissions and live tours by FDNY firefighters.
The exhibit will come to the grounds Tuesday, July 28 after a procession through Elkhart and Goshen.
We welcome the community to come out along the route to honor those who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. The procession should kick off around 2:30 p.m. at Northside Gymnasium in Elkhart and head through downtown to C.R. 20, then to U.S. 33, where it will pass through downtown Goshen on the way to the fairgrounds. The entire procession should take about an hour, passing by the grandstand at 3:30 p.m.
The route maps for Elkhart and Goshen are below (click to enlarge).
The exhibit will set up near building A on the west side of the grounds (near Heritage Park and the Midway) and will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 29 through Friday, July 31.
