With the 2017 Elkhart County 4-H Fair in the history books, the fair board gathered at the annual appreciation banquet Wednesday night (Sept. 6) to celebrate a very successful year and to look ahead to the upcoming fair season.
2017 Fair Board President Jill Garris passed the gavel to Mark Kritzman, who will provide the leadership as president of the board for 2018. Kritzman also unveiled the 2018 Fair theme.
He stated “Our 2018 Fair Theme represents what we have seen here in Elkhart County and what we desire for our future: Faith, Family, 4-H and Friends, Forming a Better World.”
Trisha Sloma, co-anchor of WNDU-TV’s “16 Morning News”, served as the guest speaker for the evening. She is no stranger to agriculture and showing 4-H animals. Sloma recalled her days of showing swine at the Hardin County Fair in Kenton, Ohio and how the values she learned from her experience growing up in that small tight knit community has carried her throughout her life.
As the evening get-together came to a close, Kritzman concluded, “Being president of the Elkhart County 4-H Fair is an honor and a privilege. May we never forget our focus is to be on education and enjoyment for our youth, their families and our guests.”
The 2018 Elkhart County 4-H Fair, “Faith, Family 4-H and Friends, Forming a Better World” runs July 20-28.
