It’s been quite a 10-year run for Mekayla Diehl-Eppers.
Crowned the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Queen in 2007 and more recently Miss Indiana USA of 2014, Diehl-Eppers added to her run of royalty by being named Mrs. America at the conclusion of a week-long pageant Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Diehl-Eppers is a Bristol native, said the experience was like a blur.
“It just went fast,” Diehl-Eppers said in a radio interview on 95.3 MNC in Mishawaka Monday morning. “If anybody’s been on any production on stage – dance recital, musical choirs, whatever it is – it just goes by so fast. You feel like you don’t really have a second to really think, you’re on auto-pilot the whole way through, prayingyour muscle memory from rehearsal kicks in. It’s mass chaos. The costumes…some of these women brought out costumes that were the size of my car!
Diehl-Eppers now will compete in the Mrs. World pageant in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dec. 17.
